Bird Watching and Nature

Tan y Foel is a very special place, set high on the side of a spectacular welsh mountain.

We have many acres of wonderful farmland, some of it we have chosen for use as a wildlife reserve.

This reserve has a wetland area and small lake. This combination ensures we have a fantastic array of dragon and damsel flies in a seemingly endless array of colours, as well as waterfowl such as ducks and Canadian geese as well as a regular heron! There are also hares and other interesting mammals.

The bird life here is, we believe, unequalled for variety, including the almost daily sightings of birds of prey such as red kites and falcons.

The variety of birds at Tan y Foel, ranges from Canadian geese to wrens and everything in between including owls. Huge variety of garden woodland and wetland based birds.

We have two private woodlands which our guests are welcome to visit. One of which contains a hide, a useful place to watch their natural behaviour. We also ensure that we provide a superb range of varied natural habitats. We are sensitive to our plantings here, ensuring they have a value as habitat or as an additional natural food source. We also supplement this with feeders and boxes. Bird watchers come from miles around to share with us some of our more unusual feathered visitors. For those interested in birdlife we are sure that you will find Tan y Foel unparalleled.

It is worth noting that we are only a few miles from Lake Vyrnwy an RSPB reserve, which is well worth a visit.
